Benjamin Cowen, a prominent crypto analyst, has issued a stark warning about the altcoin market, asserting that most projects are destined to fail. "Mid-cycle periods expose weak projects due to lower liquidity and risk appetite," Cowen stated, emphasizing that tokens lacking revenue, demand, or utility will face brutal corrections.

The market must cleanse itself by eliminating unsustainable tokens, according to Cowen, who has maintained this position across multiple market cycles. His critique sparked backlash but was defended as consistent risk management advice. "Stop believing in alt season just because some guru told you it WOULD happen," he tweeted on January 26, 2026.

Analysts observe that mid-cycle phases historically separate viable projects from speculative excess. Cowen's analysis suggests the current market conditions will accelerate this Darwinian process, with only fundamentally strong assets surviving.
